Arjan V, one of my esteemed Muay Thai mentors, often emphasizes the importance of returning to the origin of a martial art to deepen ones understanding. In my own life, I've recognized that when we study anything, true enlightenment emerges when we seek guidance from the source. Every visit to this magnificent country to train has been transformative. A week spent in Thailand, in terms of knowledge and insight, often feels as enlightening as a year spent in the UK. My numerous training expeditions to Thailand have often seen me living in a gym, sometimes training two or even three times a day. The Thais, with their tranquil and easy-going nature, offer not only delicious food but also a culture steeped in antiquity. Their martial arts, perfected over centuries, were devised to shield their nation from invaders.
The country itself boasts a stunning and diverse landscape, from pristine beaches and oceans to varying terrains, ancient temples, bustling metropolises, and serene villages. Thailand is truly a realm of wonder and passion; a place where one can either discover oneself or get completely lost, as it is a land where myriad possibilities beckon. Each of my visits has been a testament to my growth — physically, mentally, and spiritually — a result of rigorous training and introspection. My journeys have always centered around personal evolution and mastery attained through martial arts training. I've honed my skills at various gyms, gleaning wisdom from distinguished masters. It was during one of the renowned Nakanome Tome festivals that I received my Kru (teacher) title, a prestigious accolade presented by the Kru Muay Association and endorsed by Arjan V. One of the most fulfilling outcomes of these journeys was my documentary, "Warrior Spirit: Forged in the fires of Muay Thai."
